So what are Italian wines like? It's a Love Story!

Image
I love beer! I am a beer guy. Punto. So, why am I writing about wine? Sergio Nodone (2nd from right) talking about his love of wines Well, I like the occasional wine - reds or whites don't matter, but I do know that lighter meats need whites and darker meats, reds. A very close friend of mine, Sergio Nodone from Turin, Piedmont, recently armed with a Sommerlier Degree decided to start his own group on linkedin called 'Taste Without Prejudice' (please do join) and wanted to spread his passion for the grape through his and other's knowledge.  Sergio doesn't just love wine, he is obsessed about them. When coming over to our house for dinner with other friends in Turin, Italy, he always came in with a bottle that he was very proud of and started talking about the merits of those particular bottles ... endlessly.    The Sommelier He was in love... and he would look at those bottles like he was seducing it and vice-versa. I remember once that du...

Torino to The Max!

Image
This is the first part of a series of articles I would like to devote to the amazing city of Torino (Turin), Italy which I have visited several times and lived, over two years – its vibrant life, its culture, its sporting teams, its music, its famous places, its food and wine and the most important asset that makes every city in the world what it is, its people. Having traveled over several cities and countries around the globe, I have realized that each of those trips was made special by the people who lived there, whom I interacted with, who were willing to share with me some of the secrets of their life, their city and above all, their warmth. Although I have made several friends in Torino, I have made some special connections for life – ready to go out on a limb only to help me, however small or big the tasks or tribulations I faced. There are quite a few to name here… So let me just start by writing about one of the most ‘amazingest’ (I know this word doesn’t exist, but you get...

Better Communication or just 'The Right Thing to Do'?

"Location! Location! Location!" is the Real Estate Agent's mantra, while those looking for work in a sluggish economy might be better served with "Patience! Patience! Patience!" It's been almost 3 months since my return to Mumbai, India. And I am still unemployed. I don't know what to make of it. After having worked for 2 years in Italy as an Indian Market Consultant for the Business Promotion and Development arm of a State Agency successfully and having completed my Executive MBA (EMBA) from a school considered worldwide to be in the top 15 for the EMBA program, I am still unemployed. I now have over 6 years of work experience working for several sectors and am about to make a new journey post my EMBA. I wish it were the lack of skills or 'holes' in my profile that should lead to the above situation, but perhaps there are several reasons added on to it; The slowing economy even in India, the end of the financial year, the uncertainty of corp...

Better deterrents needed for crime against women!

A country that cannot protect its women should be ashamed of its law and order implementation and the judiciary should not only ask probing questions, but also set a precedent punishing the perpetrators of the various crimes committed again st women. The crimes committed against women from the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh to the growing cities of Gurgaon and Pune were probably always happening, but with greater voice, the women are thankfully coming forward and reporting these. The police in most states is good when it comes to nabbing the accused, but in some others, they have not bothered to provide timely help, lazy with the 'could-not-be-bothered' attitude. What they fail to realize is that nabbing the accused isn't enough since the damage has already been done. The perpetrators, who have been found guilty of crimes against women should be punished more severely and made examples of since the current punishment apparently doesn't deter enough. If these men are...
