Better deterrents needed for crime against women!

A country that cannot protect its women should be ashamed of its law and order implementation and the judiciary should not only ask probing questions, but also set a precedent punishing the perpetrators of the various crimes committed against women.

The crimes committed against women from the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh to the growing cities of Gurgaon and Pune were probably always happening, but with greater voice, the women are thankfully coming forward and reporting these.

The police in most states is good when it comes to nabbing the accused, but in some others, they have not bothered to provide timely help, lazy with the 'could-not-be-bothered' attitude. What they fail to realize is that nabbing the accused isn't enough since the damage has already been done.

The perpetrators, who have been found guilty of crimes against women should be punished more severely and made examples of since the current punishment apparently doesn't deter enough. If these men are so proud of their manhood and want to assert it against women, perhaps it would be a great idea to dent that confidence for ever, making heinous crimes against women a non-bailable offence to begin with or bail to be set at unthinkably large amounts and life imprisonment.

This is just one form of crime against women, another major crime is female infanticide and Foeticide. This is murder too!

For a country with roughly 36 million Hindu Gods with several female deities and almost all other religions worshiping women in some form or another, one should be honoring and respecting women more! It is pity that enough isn't being done to deter such crimes. I hope the trend will change soon or else the situation might force people deliver justice on its own terms.
